Welcome to VegetableSeeds.info, the site where you can find useful information about various popular vegetables and growing them from seed aswell as tips for finding cheap seeds to sow and grow yourself. If you are fortunate enough to have the space in your garden for a greenhouse then you will be able to make the most of this facility when it comes to growing your own vegetables. A greenhouse will allow the gardener to germinate seeds in a controlled environment, starting them off earlier in the year and then planting them out once they are well established and all chances of frost have passed. Delicate or vulnerable veg can be left to complete their entire lifecycle within this inviting environment. A greenhouse offers protection not only from the frost but from the wind, birds, rodents, slugs and neighbours' pets too.

Greenhouses come in many shapes and materials and with price tags that range from under £100 to many thousands. Simple polytunnels may be little more than oversized cloches whereas some bespoke structures may resemble a stately orangery or conservatory. There is an entire market dedicated to greenhouse accessories such as automatic window openers and watering / irrigation systems aswell as a comprehensive range of heaters. This does not mean, however, that you have to spend a king's ransom in order to erect a greenhouse in your own garden. Plenty of bargain second-hand greenhouses change hands every year via the local gardeners' grapevine, shop window ads and online listings. If you have the space then it is well worth considering putting up a greenhouse in your garden.

Some people will choose to actually plant their vegetables directly into the ground inside the greenhouse with low beds on both sides. This, however, will severely limit its flexibility for anyone who needs a multi-purpose greenhouse where they can germinate seeds, grow on seedlings and care for larger but delicate specimens.

Many people will choose to plant some of their vegetable plants in grow bags. These are relatively cheap bags of compost that may be laid flat on the ground, on staging or on a trestle bench. Cuts can be made in the plastic and seedlings planted in the soil. The bags are relatively cheap and convenient, although the soil may not always be the best quality or most suitable so it is best to do some shopping around when buying them. Exhausted soil can be recycled in the garden or on the compost heap at the end of the season and space in the greenhouse quickly cleared for winter crops.

Tomato plants, although technically a fruit, are often grown under cover of glass in grow bags or troughs and supported with bamboo canes. Radishes, spring onions and baby lettuce leaves should also find greenhouse conditions more than adequate. Plants like cucumbers will benefit from the warm and windfree environment where the fruit can be better supported and protected from damage, although plants will each require a substantial pot in which to grow.
